MARCELO ROMERO SACKED AS MANAGER OF MALAGA, REPLACED BY MICHEL

Malaga have announced the appointment of Michel as the club’s new head coach, barely two hours after announcing the departure of Marcelo Romero.
Marcelo Romero’s shortlived spell in charge of Malaga came to an end on Tuesday morning, after being sacrificed for the team’s poor start to 2017 that saw them win just one and lose seven of 10 games and slip to 15th place in La Liga.
Malaga have moved quickly to find his successor, handing the reins to former Sevilla and Olympiakos coach.
A club statement said: “Jose Miguel Gonzalez Martin, better known as Michel, will be the new Malaga CF coach through to the 2017/18 campaign. The coach will manage his first training session on Wednesday morning and will be unveiled to the media later that day at the La Rosaleda stadium.”
Michel has work to do as the club currently reside 15th in the La Liga table after winning just six of their 26 league fixtures, but they are seven points clear of relegation.
The 53-year-old, who made over 400 appearances for Real Madrid during his playing career, has coached previously Rayo Vallecano, Getafe, Sevilla, Olympiacos and Marseille.
